The seeds of a challenge idea...can someone finish my thought?

I have the seeds of what could be a new book challenge, but can't seem to complete the thought into a coherent idea....maybe our community of book lovers can comment to tell me if this is a lame idea, or if it could be fun.. What I was thinking about originally was a way for us to all get to know each other a little more than just our book reading lives. So the challenge would go something like this:

First, each participant would nominate a book (or books) that relates somehow to herself (or himself?). In other words, I could nominate a book in which one of the characters was a therapist...Lesley or bookseller chick could nominate a book where one of the main characters works in a bookstore...OR, you could nominate something that doesn't have anything to do with your job -- I could nominate a book set in San Francisco, or a book about yoga, or anything that, if you read it, you might feel like you knew me just a bit better...

Then, when we have a large list of books to choose from (along with who recommended them), we could choose a number of them that we commit to read. We might choose based on the book itself, or maybe curiosity about the one who chose it...

The "Get To Know You" book challenge?? Someone? Anyone?

I like the idea. I could join after April. This is my classics reading month, and I'm all over Portrait of a Lady and that second volume of Proust.

Lisa, that's brilliant! I like it. I am pretty "booked up" with challenges until September...maybe make this a fall challenge?!?!? I already have a book in mind to nominate!!!

It's an interesting idea and one I'd be game for. Like Wendy, I am feeling a little over committed right now with other challenges, but maybe later in the year?

I like the idea, but I'm also going to say, "Later in the year, please?"

that sounds like a very good idea...I'll have to recommend a book about (online) scrabble, I think. That's been my escape from reality lately. I think it's a fairly thin section of the book store.

I like the idea too, as it would mean that we would be reading books chosen/recommended by somebody else. Later in the year makes sense, as there is so much going on at the moment, and it also gives us all a chance to think about what book "represents" us...

Great idea!

That's a pretty good idea. I'm concerned that if someone's choice gets nixed by the group that there could be some hard feelings. How about once the list is compiled (make it a set number), whoever joins the challenge chooses 3 or 4 (or more) books off the list....maybe if they are especially drawn to one blogger or another.
