Review: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

Well, I'd hoped against hope that this would be the last book in this series. Seriously, the series is enough to crush a person with anticipation. I can't stand the suspense. Sadly, there will be a fourth, and we'll probably have to wait until towards the end of 2008 for it. Maybe by then I'll have enough willpower to pass it by.

Don't get me wrong. This is a great book. Great. She hasn't slowed down or lost her stuff at all in between Twilight and Eclipse. My advice is to read the end of this one in the bathtub, like I did, so when your husband comes in you can pretend you're sweating and not crying. Spoilers in the rest of this review, though....

The problems is: I like Jacob so much better than Edward. Now that Bella realizes that she loves Jacob too, why wouldn't she pick him? She could have a normal life, have kids, etc. etc. From here it appears that Stephenie Meyer has written herself into a lose/lose situation. There's just no solution to this problem that's going to please everyone. Or maybe even anyone. I thought the end of this book was about the best she could do to end it all, given the corner she's written herself into. Who in the world knows what she'll do next?

I couldn't continue with the review because I haven't even read the second one yet....and crying? I don't know if I'm up to it. Maybe I should stop now...

I just spent an hour on the phone with my mother-in-law who just finished this book. I think Bella chose the wrong person. I also liked Jacob much better. My mother-in-law was saying the ending was so, so perfect and she wishes that there wasn't another one. What else could she write? But then again, she also didn't know what to do with herself anymore, the only thing she wanted to do was read more of it!

Well, I couldn't help myself . . . I read the spoiler. I've only read the first book, so now I'm prepared. And, I'll skip them for the moment -- not in need of anything that produces tears, right now! :)

Bella might love Jacob, but she loves Edward /more/ than Jacob. For an intelligent argument, go here...

I don't think she would have been able to write an ending that satisfied everyone anyway, because of those odd people on Team Newton.

I'm an Edward fan. I like Jacob and I think he's the perfect friend but not the perfect love interest. And I guess I definitely didn't read closely enough, but Team Newton? I'm so confused....who is Newton? Somebody help me out here.

I agree with what you say in the last paragraph - total corner.

Yeah, I definitely wept. I was looking for more information about Stephenie Meyer and Breaking Dawn (SO excited about the release of Breaking Dawn!) and I stumbled across your review. I loved reading Eclipse, even though I feel that Bella could definitely be stronger. But I still love the series, and want her to end up with Jacob. You might be interested in this Twilight contest (the grand prize is a Cybook reader, which is an awesome, environmentally friendly way to read... AND you can carry the entire Twilight series plus TONS of other books and MP3s in a super light device, they have other prizes too). Just a week til Breaking Dawn!

Jacob is one of my favourite characters so it saddens me to know that Bella won't be choosing him in the end. True, the ending is just sad! Somebody has to get hurt.

Here is my review.

I had a great time with the book. Yeah.. I had sobby wobby tears too. Oh the Love Triangle... I just don't know if I could make up my mind between the guys. But a normal life is good... but then endless life is good too.. but at what costs... yeah.. I will be reading the next one soon. I NEED to know what happens.
